If you’re nearing 40 or 50 or 60 and wondering if you’re “too old” to start running, let me introduce you to this week’s Internet sensation, Deirdre Larkin of South Africa.
She ran her first race at age 78!
Now, at age 85, she ran a 2:05 half marathon! I know that there are many of us saying, “I’VE never run a 2:05 half marathon!!”.
Well, we may never have her lovely accent, but by golly, we can develop her dedication!
I’m tucking away a collection of stories and photos of runners, especially women runners, in their 80s and above as encouragement for me. Aging can be frightening, honestly. It’s quite eye-opening and revolutionary to me to see people running when they’re “that old”.
Our incredible grandparents lived in different times and seemed physically older to me by 50. Have courage, GenXers! We’ve got exciting potential ahead of us!
